Why Is It Important To Have A First Aid Kit?

Nobody knows when or where an accident can occur or what will be the severity of it. For example, it may be a simple bruise or minor cut during playing at home or a life-threatening accident in a car, and so on.

There are two purposes of providing First Aid:

  • To treat a minor injury
  • To provide immediate help until further helps arrive

a) To treat a minor injury

First Aid Kits can be used to treat some minor injuries completely, such as bruises, minor cuts, bee stings, e.t.c, and after handling, these injuries may not need further assistance.

Sometimes, if these minor injuries are not treated, they may worsen or get infected and become major injuries. Worsen injuries are not only serious, but they also need a lot of time and money for curing.

b) To provide immediate help until further helps arrive

First aid kits can be used to provide quick attention to a sick or injured person at the scene until further help arrives.

Sometimes, providing First Aid, such as stopping massive bleeding, preventing choking, e.t.c, maybe the only difference between a person’s life and death.

Overall, First Aid Kits not only treat minor injuries and save you from a lot of pain, expenses, and time-wasting, but they also help to stabilize a person in a major accident until further help arrives. Do First Aid Kits Have An Expiration Date?

Yes, just like all other objects, First Aid Kits also have an expiration date.

If you buy a First Aid Kit as a whole bag, then the expiration date of all the items must be the same.

But if you buy items from different places, then the expiration date for each item may vary. Plus, new restocked items will have a different expiration date than the old ones.

Expired First Aid Kits items lose their sterility and functionality and may even cause infection and worsen the injury instead of fixing it.

So, it is essential to check each item’s expiration date every 3 months and buy new items if they are expired.

Sellers produce their First Aid Kits with different expiration dates, and the average expiry date for most kits varies between 1 year ~ 5 years.

What Are The 3 C’s In First Aid?

The three C’s of First Aid are given below;

  • Check
  • Call
  • Care

a) Check

In an emergency situation, you need to be very observant and see;

  • If the place is safe to enter or not? If there is fire, smoke, e.t.c?
  • What happened?
  • How many people need care?
  • What is the injury severity of people involved? is it life-threatening or minor?
  • Is there anyone else available to help?

b) Call

It is very important to call 911 or any other available emergency helpline number in your country. In the meantime, gather detailed information, such as the number of people involved, breathing status, injury level, e.t.c, and provide it to the professionals correctly.

c) Care

After calling for help and gathering information, you need to stabilize the injured or sick person until the help arrives. You may need to stop bleeding, perform CPR, or do other things to keep the person alive.

What Are The 3 P’s In First Aid?

While you are giving care to a person, you need to follow the 3 P’s of First Aid guidelines, which are;

  • Preserve Life
  • Prevent Deterioration
  • Promote Recovery

a) Preserve Life

In this step, you have to preserve a person’s life. First, you will assess a person’s injuries level, which can easily be done by following the DOTS procedure;

  • Deformities
  • Open wounds
  • Tenderness
  • Swelling

After checking the above injuries, you may have to stop bleeding, or perform the ABC procedure, or do other actions to save a person’s life.

The ABC procedure stands for Airway, Breathing, and Circulation or Compression. For performing the ABC procedure, follow the below steps;

First, start with A of ABD, which is Airway. In this step, you need to check that the victim’s airway is clear and, if not, use different methods to unblock an airway for breathing.

The second step is B of ABC, which is breathing. You need to check if a person is breathing or not. If a person is breathing, count the speed, it should not be lower than 12-20 times per minute. If a person is not breathing or breathing at a lower than the average rate, then move to the next step.

The third step of ABC is C meaning circulation or compression. This step involves CPR.

b) Prevent Deterioration

In this step, you need to prevent further worsening of the situation and keep the person stable until further help arrives. This step may include performing the below actions;

  • Applying first aid
  • Prevent further injuries
  • Moving the person to a safe location
  • Other methods

c) Promote Recovery

In this step, you need to boost the recovery in the patient, which may include following the below actions;

  • Giving comfort
  • Inspiring confidence
  • Efforts to relieve pain
  • More.

The 3 P’s of First Aid are just the basics, and the details may differ according to the situation. Still, by following these, you will know precisely what you are doing instead of getting confused, and you may save a person’s life or prevent further injury.

What Are The HS Codes Of First Aid Kits?

Harmonized System ( HS ) is a worldwide accepted system for the classification of shipped products.

By classification, it means that by using a 6 to 10 digit HS code, the exact category of the shipped item can be determined, which helps the customs department of your country to apply real tax on your shipped items.

Without HS codes, it will be hard to determine the exact category of the shipped item, and your customs department will most likely end up applying more custom duties.

If you are worried about custom clearance, do not fear, we are very experienced, and we will help you. If you want complete peace of mind, we can introduce you to a delivery company, which will ship your cargo at your door.
